Game Recap: Rampage fall short in game two of doubleheader

Ducks import Ryan Ruddle scored a hat trick and two assists to give Melbourne a 6-4 win over the Brisbane Rampage in a penalty filled contest at Iceworld Boondall on Saturday night.

Ducks goalie Dayne Davis stopped 26 shots on the night with Rampage goalie Luca D’Arsié stopping 33 from 39 shots in his Rampage debut.

Hayden Dawes scored his fourth goal of the season within the first minute of play to put the Ducks up 1-0. PHL’s top goal scorer Jordan McTaggart equalised the score at 1-1 before Ryan Ruddle and Logan Gallacher put two in the net to go up 3-1 and the end of the first period.

Brisbane’s Jordan McTaggart scored his second goal of the game about half way through the period with Owen Sobchak chipping in an unassisted goal to tie the game 3-3 before Melbourne’s Ryan Ruddle scored his second of the game to put the visitors up 4-3 going into the second intermission.

The penalties blew out in the third period putting the home team a man down at the start of the period and the Ducks capitalising immediately by putting a power play goal in the net to go up 5-3 and never looked back from there.

Ryan Ruddle scored his hat trick eight minutes later in the period to go up 6-3 before the Rampage’s Anthony Barnes netted his second goal of the season with six minutes to play in regulation which wound up being the last change on the scoreboard in the game.

Both teams retain their spots in the standings sitting first and second respectively.

Rampage are home again this coming weekend against the visiting Adelaide Avalanche on Friday and Saturday night at Iceworld Boondall.
